[KinoSearch] KinoSearch 0.163 - Couldn't open file : File exists

Hello,
I'm using KinoSearch 0.163 with TWiki on a Windows 2000 server with Cygwin.
(Don’t ask - I recommended Linux, but the client requires Windows.)

Most of the time, KinoSearch works great - much better than the default
search.
However, every so often the index breaks and searches return no results.
If I try to re-index, I get the following error:

Couldn't open file '<...>/index/_1.f0': File exists
       at <...>/KinoSearch/Store/FSInvIndex.pm line 88
called at <...>/KinoSearch/Index/SegWriter.pm line 40
...

Most recently, the problem seemed to occur near the very end of a 20min
index.
If I delete the index directory and re-index, everything works fine.

I've seen similar threads:
http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/kinosearch/discuss/3249
but they suggest that the problem was fixed in 0.163.

Any suggestions of things I could try to diagnose and fix the problem, or
workarounds?

I've tried compiling KinoSearch 0.2, but something goes wrong
during the build and charmony.h isn't created.

I could delete and rebuild the entire index daily (or more often).

Before each update or index run, I could have a script check for and delete
files that cause the problems.

Thanks,
Clif
