The devel branch (0.30_xx) supports UTF-8.  Tokenization would be limited to
single glyphs.  You'd probably need to write a custom QueryParser.

The core is written in C.  While I'd like to work on improving support for
other languages, right now it would be difficult to move other priorities
aside.
